Executive director of Human Rights Watch Kenneth Roth stated that “the military strategy of the US in Syria is focusing completely against ISIS terrorists” as it disregards Assad’s crimes against Syrian civilians.
Roth’s statement came in a speech on Wednesday, during a seminar organized by the Atlantic Council center (Washington-based think tank), titled: “Civilian Suffering In Arab Conflicts.”
He described the strategy as “inconsistent,” as “the Assad regime kills more civilians in Syria.”
“Millions were forced to leave their homeland due to the war in Syria,” adding that “it is not an ordinary war, soldiers are not fighting soldiers and Assad [terrorists] are targeting civilians and hospitals; no human being or any living creature is safe there,” Anadolu Agency quoted Roth as saying.
Roth explained that “the US President Barack Obama’s administration did not press enough on Russia to pressure Assad.”
He also mentioned that “the US has pledged to accept 10 thousand Syrian refugees during 2016, but it only opened its doors to nearly two thousands of them.”
