German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier expressed desire for resuming the intra-Syrian peace talks and reaching a peaceful solution to the conflict in Syria.
Speaking to a joint press conference following his meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday evening, the German minister commended the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached by Iran and the P5+1 in Vienna last July.

He voiced hope that the nuclear deal will provide groundwork for cooperation between the Iran and the international community to resolve key issues in the Middle East, particularly the crises of Syria, Iraq and Yemen.
He also expressed profound concern over the unrest in the three Arab countries, adding that he discussed with Zarif the possibility of coordinating the stances of their two countries regarding the turmoil in the Middle East.
On his part, the Iranian minister said the conflicts in the regions cannot be resolved by military means.
He voiced hope that the UN envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura would be able to bring back the negotiators to the table in Geneva as early as possible, Kuna reported.
