Fatth al-Sham, Jaysh al-Fatth’s old name, published on Wednesday night a statement which said that Russians took revenge on civilians by attacking them with chlorine gas in Idlib’s Saraqeb after the crash of the helicopter and the death of the five member crew. The Statement, which Orient Net received an exclusive copy of it, read:
“Statement Regarding Revenge Chemical Attack on the Civilians of Saraqeb 3rd August, 2016:
“On August 2nd, 2016, the Syrian, civilian population of Saraqeb, Idlib witnessed yet another barbaric bombardment of explosive barrels containing cylinders of chlorine and shards of metal. The attack resulted in twenty-eight confirmed cases of civilian death or injury. This comes within twenty-four hours of the downing of a Russian Mi-8 military helicopter, flying across the liberated areas of Northern Syria enroute to an air base in Hmeimeem.
“The crash resulted in the death of five Russian military personnel. It is no surprise that the Assad regime continues to act in subservience to its Russian master, avenging the death of foreign death squads by committing horrendous war crimes against the native Syrian people.
“Over the past five years, brave medical personnel in the liberated areas, with limited resources, have been compelled to become proficient in recognising and treating injuries caused by Assad’s chemical attacks. In a hopeless effort to avoid criminalization, Russia has claimed the mission humanitarian.
“However, Russia’s continuous, unashamed bombing of heavily-populated civilian areas, clearly proves to the world that their presence in Syria is anything but humanitarian.
“The Syrian people are aware of the naivety and futility of those begging for war criminals to abide by international conventions and resolutions.
“Conversely, those who continue to shoulder the responsibility of the defense of the Syrian people refuse to be humiliated by placing themselves in such positions, and will continue to exert all their efforts in fulfilling the goals of their cause.”
