ويأتي المشروع بدعم من منظمة سامز الأمريكية وبالتعاون مع جمعية أعمال البر، ضمن خطة الوزارة لتعزيز خدمات علاج الأورام وتقريبها من المرضى. وأكد رئيس إدارة أمراض السرطان في وزارة الصحة الدكتور جميل الدبل أن المركز يشكل نقلة نوعية في رعاية مرضى السرطان، إذ سيخدم أكثر من ستة ملايين نسمة، ويخفف عنهم أعباء السفر إلى مراكز العلاج في المحافظات الأخرى، فضلاً عن تقليص فترات الانتظار الطويلة التي كانت تمتد لأشهر.
وبالتوازي مع ذلك، افتتح وزير الصحة الدكتور مصعب العلي، بحضور محافظ حماة عبد الرحمن السهيان، قسم العناية المشددة في مشفى الأطفال والتوليد، بطاقة استيعابية تبلغ عشرة أسرّة، مزودة بثمانية أجهزة تنفس اصطناعي وأربع حواضن، إضافة إلى استكمال تجهيز القسم بالمعدات الطبية والأدوية وتأمين الكوادر المؤهلة.
وأوضح مدير المنشآت الصحية الدكتور واصل الجرك أن التوسعة رفعت الطاقة الاستيعابية للقسم بنسبة 100% خلال العام الجاري، مشيراً إلى أن الوزارة تواصل تنفيذ مشاريع تستهدف تطوير البنية الصحية ورفع كفاءة الخدمات، ولا سيما في الاختصاصات التي تشهد طلباً متزايداً، بما يسهم في تحسين فرص حصول المرضى على الرعاية الطبية داخل محافظاتهم.
