عثرت الشرطة الأمريكية في منطقة “هامدن” الريفية بولاية أوهايو الأمريكية أثناء تنفيذ أمر تفتيش في قضية أخرى على 16 طفلاً محتجزين في ظروف صحية وبيئية سيئة.
وبحسب رويترز، صرح المدعي العام في ولاية أوهايو: “بعض الأطفال لم يكونوا قادرين حتى على الكلام، الوضع كان سيئاً للغاية، بدا الأطفال وكأنهم حيوانات برية، كان الوضع فظيعاً والمشهد وكأنه في أحد بلدان العالم الثالث”.
وتتراوح أعمار الأطفال بين سنة ونصف إلى 18 سنة. احتجزهم آباءهم وأجدادهم لأسباب عائلية مجهولة، في غرفة صغيرة لا تتجاوز مساحتها 13 متراً مربعاً، بين أكوام القمامة وفضلات البشر. كما حرموا من التسجيل في النظام الحكومي ومنعوا من الدراسة.
تمت محاكمة المتهمين الأربعة بارتكاب 16 جريمة خطيرة، تتعلق بتعريض الأطفال للخطر. وتم فرض غرامة قدرها 300 ألف دولار، كما تم منعهم من أي تواصل مع بعضهم البعض أو مع الضحايا.
