انطلقت فعاليات المؤتمر العام الثامن والعشرين للاتحاد العام لنقابات العمال في سوريا، وذلك في مقر الاتحاد العام بدمشق
وشهد حفل الافتتاح عرضًا مرئيًا تناول المسيرة التاريخية للاتحاد، كما أكد الرئيس فواز الأحمد في كلمته أن انعقاد المؤتمر يشكل لحظة وطنية فارقة لتقييم الإنجازات وتجديد العهد بين الاتحاد والعمال
وأشار الأحمد إلى أن هذا المؤتمر يمثل أول تجمع نقابي يعقد بعد تحرير البلاد، مؤكدًا أن الطبقة العاملة كانت ولا تزال عمادًا للثبات وشريكًا أساسيًا في عملية البناء الوطني
واستعرض رئيس الاتحاد جملة من الإنجازات التي تحققت، حيث عمل الاتحاد على إعادة الاعتبار للحياة النقابية، وإطلاق مبادرات رائدة في مجال الصحة والسلامة المهنية، مع التركيز على تفعيل المنظومة الصحية العمالية وربط الفحوصات الدورية بمتطلبات بيئة العمل
كما أبرز الأحمد أهمية التعاون البناء مع وزارة الشؤون الاجتماعية والعمل وغرف الصناعة والتجارة، الذي أسهم في تطوير برامج التدريب المهني ومواءمتها مع احتياجات سوق العمل، إلى جانب تعزيز العلاقات الدولية والعربية من خلال المشاركة الفاعلة في مؤتمرات العمل الدولية
وكشف عن توقيع الاتحاد لاتفاقيات وتعاون مع اتحادات عمالية في دول شقيقة، أسفرت عن تحقيق مواقع قيادية متميزة وتبادل للخبرات أثبتت فعاليتها على أرض الواقع
وأوضح الأحمد التزام الاتحاد بمواصلة العمل على إدراج الاتفاقيات الدولية الخاصة بالصحة والسلامة المهنية في التشريعات الوطنية، بما يتوافق مع السيادة الوطنية ويضمن تحقيق بيئة عمل عادلة وعصرية
