Hearing shots was not something usual to the Syrians on the eve of the new year, may be because this reminds them of the bloody reality of the war that crushed their hearts and dreams, or may be because this is a symbol of murdering and ruin accompanying their miserable life; that life, which has taken from them the joy and happiness, and that lacks the minim basic necessities of comfortable living and humanity which has died in the world leaders and officials regarding the Syrian people’s crisis.
Opinions and feelings get varied with the end of 2016, which was a bloody and tough year to so many Syrians since in which much many innocent souls were claimed, several got arrested going through bitter days in regime arresting centers.. so many families were forced to abandon their houses leaving behind all their dreams and memories in a homeland stolen from them against their will just for Assad regime to remain in power; with signs of a methodological demographic changes in those areas.
Regime supporters and Shabeha (military militias) were busy celebrating the new year shooting in joy and happiness of regime last victory recently. Their random shots broke the glass of the cars parked in front of night clubs which they headed to spent the night dancing and celebrating. This made the car’s owners got upset from the chaos that happened the new year eve in Damascus city; as well as the fear and panic caused to children and citizens due to so many shots at midnight.
A citizen from Damascus city commented on this:” I ask the one who was shooting randomly on the new year eve: If the Zionist enemy had attacked us, would you have shot in the air just like what you did on the new year eve, would you have shot at him beating him, would you have ran away like thieves leaving behind weapons and gains or would you have reached peace with him? All I want to know is have you paid for the bullets? and if someone had been injured or the glass of a car or house had been broken, would you have felt sorry? In Dubai they used fireworks that cost billions in the eve of the new year; considering us we spent millions on shooting. You had better use them in the fronts not here”.
It has been six years for the war which is enough to increase the suffering of the Syrians particularly in liberated areas that become out of regime control. Some of them started their new year in displacement camps and refuging centers in a miserable circumstances, while others started the year with hope for a decision putting an end to the war praying Allah for soon relief where they called it the “unit” group in a suggestion by the citizens in opposition areas for the factions to be united in order to improve the poor conditions of the people.
It is a another year and the Syrians are still facing an oppressor regime that is getting more brutal and corrupted in dealing with the revolted people. Will this new year witnesses a positive change regarding the Syrian revolution? Or will it be more bloody than the last one?
