There is no need for more evidence to realize the extent of the strategic competition between Russia and the US over the areas of influence in the world. It is clear that the Americans block every area in the face of the Russians and deploy strategic weapons in any area that surrounds Russia.
The Soviet Union, the historical foe of the US, would not have collapsed had it not been for the US power. The Americans have used for decades all military, political, economic and media tools to eliminate the Soviets.
As soon as Putin assumed power, Russia started to prosper again; it began rebuilding its military power to confront the American tyranny. We saw how Russia invaded Georgia republic years ago and occupied part of it in retaliation for the western attempts to encircle Russia via the previous Soviet republics.
We do not also forget how Russia invaded Crimea peninsula recently and annexed it to its areas of influence amid wide western condemnation and denunciation that pushed the US and its western allies to impose strict economic sanctions on the Russian bear. In Ukraine, Russia divided the country and took part of it when it felt that the west was trying to encircle it by making Ukraine join the European Union.
And we cannot forget how the US deployed strategic missiles in some countries of the previous Eastern Europe to threaten Russia. This made the Russians express their great concerns about the American expansion on their borders to encircle them militarily from land, air and sea. In the last few days, the Russian president expressed Russia’s great anxiety following the US announcement in NATO’s last summit in Poland to deploy US missiles in South Korea. Putin warned that this American step would endanger international stability; this is a Russian warning that cannot be belittled or ignored.
The Russian-Chinese-Iranian coalition in the last years is probably a clear retaliation for the US attempts to choke China, Russia and Iran at the same time. Despite the Russian Chinese historic dispute, the US hazard on the two countries made them unite to face the US octopus. We saw how the Russians and the Chinese used the veto in the Security Council more than once to confront the likely US intervention in Syria. Russia and China realize that the US might target the two countries via chaos and civil wars that will eventually lead to the friability of the two super powers. Undoubtedly, many noticed this surprising converge between Russia and Iran and the Russian attempts to provide Iran with long range missiles such as S-300 among others to enhance the US anti-axis in the strategic Eurasia.
It does not escape anyone that Russia is working extensively to form a new international power to restore balance in the international order which collapsed with the collapse of the Soviet Union. The Russian project is represented in building a new power called the Eurasian project which combines Asia and Europe. But, despite this lurid strategic conflict between Russia and the US in many international areas, the Russians and the Americans share the same stance in Syria. What is the reason? It is Israel? Russians and Americans cannot but unite their efforts in a way that serves Israel in an area that is of most importance to the Israelis.
Notice how the Russians and the Americans fight in the most strategic areas in the world while they coordinate their efforts and discuss all pros and cons in the Syrian crisis. This led some to comment saying: it is misfortunate for Syrians that the Russians, the Americans and the Israelis are allies in Syria in a way that serves the Assad regime and obstructs its opposition. Had the US not been satisfied with the Russian role in Syria, it would have provided the Syrian opposition with few anti-aircraft missiles which are held on shoulders as it did in Afghanistan earlier. With this, it made Russia notorious and made it sink more in the Syrian quagmire, the same way it made the then Soviets sink in the Afghani quagmire when the Afghani mujahedeen at that time defeated the Russians and expelled them disgraced from the country.
The situation in Syria, however, is different despite all the US Russian disputes over the other areas of influence in the world. Had it not been the Israeli interest, US secretary of States John Kerry would not have pilgrimed to Moscow off and on to coordinate stances with the Russians towards the Syrian crisis which is of strategic importance to Israel. Had Israel not been Syria’s neighbor, we would not have seen this US Russian harmony in Syria nor would we have heard about strategic maneuvers, the first of their kind, between the Israelis and the Russians starting from the Syrian land amid US welcome.
America, otherwise, would never have allowed Russia to interfere and threaten its interests in one of the most strategic areas in the world. The Russians knew the US weakness and hit two birds with one stone: they served the common ally of both Russia and the US in the area which is Israel and they occupied a strategic location in the area with an American approval.
But this does not mean that struggle in other areas will not continue between Russia and the US and it might end with unprecedented wars especially that the Russians possess strategic weapons that threaten the Americans all over the world.
