Madaya is a town and a Syrian locality; it is linked to Alzabadani district in the province of Damascus countryside. It is in the north-west of Damascus in Lebanon eastern mountain chain which is 1608 m high with a population of 28000 persons. This town which has suffered the siege forced by regime forces in June 2015 till now using a lot of submarine mines that are put completely all around the city. Siege, killing and hunger which befallen the city, where its children’s photos were way worse than Africa children on social media and TV channels, are not enough?! Now diseases and illness speaking about Meningitis which recently Madaya citizens are going through.
International Health Organization has announced two days ago on Friday suspicions of six meningitis cases in the town in a meeting in the UN headquarter Geneva where these cases were reported between 3-30 in last August. The organization pointed to the fact that most cases are of virus origin and not of microbial one. Meningitis is an acute inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and coral cord, there are many reasons for inflammation including viral, microbial and fungal.
This inflammation is considered to be threating life where it is classified an urgent medical case. The dangerous and stupendous thing here is that this disease happens by contagion through microorganism most of it viruses. By connecting this with what have been mentioned about the announcement of International Health Care about Meningitis in Madaya which confirms that the cases are viral; we see that we are for real before a humanitarian disaster. This means infection will catch largely and quickly the people in the town particularly in the circumstances of suffocating siege it is going through with the absence of medical service there besides the difficulty to deliver antibiotic needed in the time being due to the siege carried out by regime forces specially the International Health Care has declared in the early stage of Madaya siege that the medical services in general in Syria have retreated a lot after 58 percent of its hospitals had been destroyed partially or completely in addition to the immigration of most doctors.. then how will it be nowadays?!
The questions here:
How will Madaya face this disease, in the hunger, siege and absence of medical services befalling the town?
Is quarantine in the town enough to stop infection from the rest cities and towns of the province?
Many people are talking and wondering can these illness spreading now are a new means launched by Assad with his weapons to claim souls everywhere and with any possible means? Let us remember the scandalous delivery of children milk months ago; that milk because of which accusations were launched between Turkey, Germany, Iran and opposition about validity, composition and the safety of it after some breaches in manufacturing it, its validity came to an over and finding different potters on it to disguise the real information.
In fact it is scientifically proved that wars in any age are accompanied by illness and diseases (like plague spread among the soldiers of the French campaign on Aka at the time Napoleon campaign on the Levant failed) this is expected since the early break out of the Syrian Revolution.
So it is UN and international community role to act about this issue; it is no longer about the Syrian shed-blooded people; but it is about sever diseases so infectious and deadly.. it is threatening the whole district!
Will the consciousness of the world wake up before it is too late or a quarantine and mass holocaust of Madaya citizens world delegates Assad to carrying it out is all what the international community will do about this issue?
