Electricity department is considered to be one of the most affected services in Syria, it has have the biggest share considering war impacts which have burdened the citizens making their lives more difficult. Because of being basic in almost all the main services such as running bakehouses, hospitals and water pumping stations, electricity has contributed in causing real crisis in Syria, which it is manifested in high prices of all the basic materials the thing led to increase the financial burden on families and decreasing the income so that 80 percent of civilians become beyond poverty line according to statistics carried out humanitarian organizations.
Regime- held areas witness remarkable decrease of electricity hours in the civilian neighborhoods by increasing power outage hours that can reach 20 hours a day. This led to civilians’ complaints and objections to the strategy of Electricity Ministry pursued annually with the onset of winter season and frost waves, so they will not use electricity in warming, despite the ministry repeated promises to increase the required rate of fuel to run the stations. Regime minister of electricity has declared that 45 percent of generating stations are out of service and despite this it is possible to say that the electrical system is all fine.
These statements of the minister aroused anger and mockery among civilians for the condition electricity turns to become. A civilian said in a comment linked to the statement:” certainly the system is all fine in your well- lighted houses and offices.. here we, the civilians, are the poor who are depending on candles and fuel lambs, thank you government for your concern about us .. you are really working hard”.
At the time, the general manager for Distributing Electricity, Nasoh Semsemisye”, emphasized to pro- regime websites:” considering the weather conditions and severe decrease in temperature, there has been extra dependence that led to weak electricity, which means more power outage hours. This requires additional quantities of fuel in running the general electricity facility to cover all Damascus city neighborhoods and the countryside, which is unavailable currently due to difficulty of providing big financial expenditures”.
As if they were giving the people anesthetic pills to byepass their underacting in providing civilians with the minim infrastructure of life. In every time, they ascribe the reason of increasing outage period to different reasons form the previous ones where they promise the people with reforming and new hopes that are way far from implement.
A civilian commented angrily:” a people who has been scarifying for years giving martyrs, bearing corruption and staying in the country preferring it to flee, does not deserve such justifications, the minister should resign if he can not take responsibility to let someone else handle this mission.. the minister is only presenting excuses to the people, because the people who have adapted to the 6- year crisis; the government should adapt to decreasing spending and expenditures with wasting billions pounds on touristic projects and events in the public yards. If you have no shame, then you can what you want”.
