More than one hundred Syrian refugees are being trained by German military to do civilian roles to help in the eventual rebuilding of their country, Reuters reported Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen as saying on Sunday.
Technology, medicine and logistics are among the areas which Syrian refugees are training on in a pilot program overseen by German military, the minister told Frankfurter Allgemeine daily.
However, it is not clear if the pilot program is going to include a bigger number of Syrians who are living in Germany.
“The idea is that they will go back to Syria one day and help with the reconstruction” of their country, von der Leyen told the newspaper.
The minister added that Germany could play a role in training Syrian security forces once Syria has a responsible government, according to Reuters.
