Osama al-Mallouhi, in his article published on Orient Net Arabic website, argues whether the Syrian crisis was the last nail the EU’s coffin.
He starts by making reference to the late British MP Jo Cox and her support to the cause of Syrian refugees. He says that the same words she used to support Britain Stronger in Europe campaign, were the words which her killer used while stabbing her, “Britain first.”
The author then states that Britons have a big dilemma with migrants, which dates back to 1990s when migrants from Eastern Europe and those who fled to avoid the the financial crisis entered Britain.
Al-Mallouhi points out then that when the huge refugee crisis happened, in which refugees were mostly Syrians, Britain agreed to receive the least percentage of refugees. It finally agreed to receive 5.000 refugees although it can take more than fifty thousand, the author argues.
In addition to that, Britain put on alert all its apparatus to prevent refugees from entering the country, especially through Channel Tunnel, the author thinks.
He states that racial calls in the press and British forums floated to the surface in 2013. However, racist propaganda reached its limits with Nigel Farage, the UKIP leader, when he published a photo for huge queues of refugees with the caption “breaking point,” according to al-Mallouhi.
“Syrians, however, exposed, through their revolution, all the contradictions and contradicted people who were hiding on the Syrian land and it surroundings,” the author suggests.
He says that Syrians, also, exposed those who controlled the world and ranted about humanitarian values along with values of freedom and justice.
“They all ranted so much and for so long. However, when the Syrian exposing element reached them. They were all exposed and their ugliness was shown to the world,” the author concludes.
