Russia Today (RT) TV has released photos of the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu wandering in Latakia’s Hmeimim air-base and meeting Russian military personnel there.
Green and red border columns were plain to view in the photos. These columns are used by Russia in border demarcation.
The columns were set up to mark the Russian borders with Georgia and Ukraine, photos from the Internet showed.
“Russia considers Syria a garrison town, this is the only explanation for it to set up these boundaries in Hmeimim air-base,” a Syrian analyst commented.
Hmeimim air-base is a special airport used by Assad and his close circle as it is only 10 kilometers from al-Qerdaha, the home town of the head of the regime.
This new scandal came after another one that followed Shoigu’s surprise visit to Syria, in which Assad appeared in a leaked video sitting round a table welcoming the Russian Defense Minister. Bashar said verbally, “I did not know Mr Minister that you personally would come to Syria”.
“The surprise visit is the best example of violating the Syrian sovereignty which Assad has always spoken about,” a Syrian analyst spoke to Orient Net and added that “Russia has the upper hand in Syria and it consults one in taking decisions concerning Assad’s fate.”
